Welcome to the NEW Brain Health Kitchen newsletter
plus, a Better-For-You Carrot Cake with Coconut Cashew Frosting
Say hello to the NEW Brain Health Kitchen newsletter. After writing to you every month for the last 5½ years, I’m hitting the refresh button in time for my cookbook launch next month. The newsletter now comes to you from Substack, an innovative platform that connects writers and readers, helping build vibrant online communities like ours. One major perk is that you can now save (and print) the recipes I share here in your own recipe archive.
If you already subscribe to my newsletter, you don’t have to do a thing. You’ll still receive a monthly email from me, all about taking care of your brain, and it’s still free. If you’re new here—welcome! Learn more about what this newsletter is all about here.
The exciting thing about Substack is that I can now offer you even more resources to help you take care of your brain. The field of preventing Alzheimer’s is changing rapidly, and that’s good news for us all. It has become increasingly difficult, however, to update you on all the latest advances in one letter a month. Plus, I want to share all the delicious ways you can nourish your brain with recipes, kitchen tips, and articles. That’s why I’m giving you the option of upgrading your free membership to a paid Premium newsletter.
Why Upgrade to Premium:
If you are serious about taking care of your brain, the habits I recommend are more likely to stick if cultivated in small doses—consistently—over time. Upgrading to the Premium newsletter ($7/month or $70/year) gets you a steady dose of easily digestible science tidbits, and proven brain health strategies. And delicious recipes, of course! Now that my first book is about to be out in the world, I am enjoying having more time in the kitchen to create new brain-healthy recipes for you.
In addition to the regularly scheduled monthly email, I’ll check in with you on Tuesdays and Fridays with:
Quick tips about brain-healthy living (like: did you know that regular flossing is linked to better brain health?)
Kitchen Dispatches: an ingredient, tool, cooking technique, or non-recipe recipe
Brain Health Book Club recommendations
Topics for discussion (paid subscribers can comment on posts and threads)
Q and A with a thought leader in the brain health world
Brain Health Homework: a simple action to add to your daily living that could add years to your brain’s longevity
New and original BHK recipes
Fun quizzes to test your brain health IQ
Handy Kitchen Guides
BHK Journal Club: Real-life take-aways from the latest study on Alzheimer’s prevention
First dibs on Brain Health Retreats (Italy and Panama sell out quickly!)
I want to hear from you, my long-time readers. What do you most want help with? What kinds of recipes do you need? Do you prefer quick reads, deep dives, or a combination? I would love to know. Leave a comment below in the thread.
So far, I am loving Brain Health Kitchen’s new home on Substack. In fact, I’m so excited to be here I baked you a cake. Actually, I baked this Better-For-Your Carrot Cake with Coconut Cashew Frosting more times than I can count before I was satisfied. I am happy to report the recipe is now ready for you to enjoy (linked below).
Community makes your brain healthier. I am proud to see the BHK community flourish with thousands of students (I call them Brain Health Ambassadors) throughout the world.
Here, you’ll join a community of food lovers who are curious about the science of aging well. With our new home on Substack, we have a place to meet, share ideas, and join forces on our journey for better brain health.
Everyone is welcome here. Thank you for making your brain health a priority. Paid subscribers, especially, thank you for supporting my work.
I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming months as I travel the U.S. to share the book. Stay tuned for a full book tour schedule.
Subscribers, I’ll see you back here on Tuesday with one of my favorite new recipes: an easy soup that’s a nourishing one-bowl meal.
Much love,
Annie
