Something that works really well for me before a long trip is making my destination grocery list on the same Iist I've used to pack for the trip. This way, I've already decided what I want in my hotel fridge for breakfast. It helps me make better choices than what might appeal to me after a long international flight crammed into a position nature never intended.
This is such a great list. Really love the idea of a travel care package. That’s something I’d do for someone else, but haven’t done for myself. I’m traveling next month and am so excited to put one together! Thank you, Annie ❤️
Thanks Michelle! Yes, I know what you mean--it started as a gift I used to do for my husband or friends for big trips. We should definitely be doing them for ourselves. xoxo
I can personally vouch for the chocolate chunk cookies and the granola. Both are wonderful. We recently bought an RV and don't want to "bad snack" on the road. Lots of good options to try in this post.
My favs: home cut carrot and celery sticks, HB eggs. If I have time, I make up a salad in a tight-sealing Tupperware-type container: lettuces, any leftover cooked veggies or grains, quartered HB egg, feta, pumpkin seeds, etc. Drizzle with olive oil at home so you don’t run into TSA issues, and include a lemon wedge to squeeze on just before eating so your greens won’t wilt. Bring along a plastic fork and you have a wonderful, fresh travel meal.
Be mindful that if you bring something like hummus or yogurt, TSA views them like any liquid or gel, so you won’t be able to bring them through security if you have too much.
I think my brain and body are starved for this kind of nourishment, thank you. I saw you will be in NYC on 4.17. I live on Spring Island and will try to carry your cookbook with me for you to sign. It would be great to see you!
This was a great article & I'm enjoying reading all the other suggestions by members. I make my own healthy trail mix, but like to include a little dark chocolate in it for a treat.
I'd like to know more about your travel tea cup & the carrier. That sounds perfect!
Appreciate this topic as it has been challenging for me. I’m basically happy if I don’t over eat. That said, I discovered tin tuna fillets after reading one of your articles and will bring on my next trip!
I debated adding tinned fish--an obvious choice for convenience and nutrition, but put them in the same category as boiled eggs on planes! Great for airport meals though.
Do you carry the hummus and eggs in an insulated bag? Curious about keeping things fresh. I don’t like to eat on the plane itself much but endless layovers and delays can make for long days/nights!
These are great suggestions and.I do like the idea of your own ceramic tea cup too. The amount of waste produced on a flight is depressing.
I hadn't thought about olives and I do like them so I'll add them in plus I usually do a cut up apple also. Wearing a mask while flying has definitely cut down on mindless snacking too!!
I bring a bag of mixed whole grain cereal...Wheat Chex, Fiber One. If it's early in the morning, I make a yogurt, berry, and walnut parfait in a plastic carry cup and eat that at the airport before I get on the plane. I also bring one of your blueberry muffins.
Wonderful post - enjoying one year later. ;)

Love the travel salad Susan! Just the best and a good way to clean out the fridge.
Right! Hope you’re having a fabulous retreat! ❤️
Oh Susan, you would LOVE it!

It will be wonderful to see you Sally!
Love this list!!
Notice sad-looking olives and bread at airport. Really makes me appreciate Italy!

No, I don't but would consider that if traveling in a tropical climate.
Please expand on the inflammatory nature of packaged roasted nuts. I was not aware of this and eat them daily.
I wrote about the AGE content of food here:https://www.brainhealthkitchen.com/grill-foods-minimize-harmful-ages/ Let me know if you have questions!

Yes the waste is appalling and always feels good to do a small part to reduce it.
